Eco-Friendly Handmade Soap Packaging: Gift Packaging Ideas

For your own handcrafted gifts, here are some eco-friendly soap packaging ideas. Paper, string, lace, fabric, and other natural materials can all be easily and affordably recreated.

It's the holiday season, and you're probably thinking about presents. If you're anything like me, you'll have a to-do list full of Handmade Soap Packaging gifts and treats. Making handmade gifts is a great way to save money while also adding a personal touch to gift-giving. If you're smart, making a few batches of soap and wrapping the bars in pretty materials is a good way to go. They can be stuffed into Christmas stockings, given with a small card, or included in a small gift set.

Here are a few ideas for making your Handmade Soap Packaging unique as a gift. I prefer to work with materials that have a natural look and feel. All of the ideas below can be made at home using scraps of paper and string. The rest can be found at any craft store.

To Give As Gifts, Make Your Own Soap

It covers the fundamentals of making soap from scratch, as well as terminology and step-by-step instructions.

I also strongly advise that you cure all of the soap you give as gifts. The curing process' main goal is to dry out the soap; wet soap will dampen paper and string, resulting in a big mess. Have faith in my abilities.

Simple Soap Packaging With Bows

The most basic way to embellish Handmade Soap Packaging is with a bow. Raffia ribbon, plain string, bakers twine, cooking twine, or even embroidery thread can be used to make them. Make do with what you've got or visit a craft or dollar store.

Using colours that contrast is something I would recommend. If your soap is all cream and white, use colourful materials. When using coloured soap, go for more natural tones, like the raffia ribbon in the photo above. With a bow on top, even the most rustic of your soaps will look fantastic.

Taking this concept a step further, I'd suggest stacking four small bars of soap in a box, each in a different colour or scent. Consider how lovely they'll look with their individual bows.

Wrapping Handmade Soap Packaging In Washcloths

One of the most environmentally friendly ways to decorate Handmade Soap Packaging is to use reusable materials. You could use a piece of fabric, but the most obvious choice is a soft washcloth. It could be a plain cloth like the one in the photo or a standard terry cloth. Aren't you enamoured with it? I'm going to let you in on a little secret that's been hidden beneath that cloth.

To be clear, this isn't a face-washing cloth. It's a kitchen washrag from my local supermarket, which comes in five packs. In the United Kingdom, these can be found at the Co-op. You might be able to find them on the internet or by asking your mother or grandmother in another country. Grannies know where to get all of the household necessities.

Knitting or crocheting your own soft cotton washcloths is also an option. I doubt they'd be difficult or expensive to make, and they'll give your handcrafted gift even more value.

Using lace to embellish Handmade Soap Packaging is another brilliant and simple idea. Simply cut enough lace to wrap the soap bar once and then place it in a gift box. Lace in a variety of patterns and colours looks stunning when mixed and matched. These would look fantastic next to a vintage teacup candle. If you enjoy making candles, this could be a fun project.

Lace can be purchased in fabric stores or online. Because vintage lace is so much more expensive, I'd probably avoid it. Another benefit is that most modern lace is made primarily of acrylic, which means it will not absorb moisture as readily as older lace.

Though most lace comes in narrow ribbons, there are also wider options. With only a thin strip of lace, these could cover the majority of the bar and look stunning next to others. When it comes to decorating and gifting soap, contrasted decorations can really make your Handmade Soap Packaging bars look even more beautiful.

Once your soap bars have fully cured, you can wrap them on paper. Brown parchment paper, gift wrapping paper, tissue paper, Soap Boxes For Homemade Soap, and even baking paper could be used. Each soap bar feels like a mini-present when it's wrapped in paper. It doesn't matter what kind of paper you use!

Inexpensive Options Include Greaseproof (Wax) Paper, Dried Herbs And Flowers, And Raffia Ribbon.

Above is a photo of soap that has been wrapped in grease-resistant translucent paper. Wax paper comes in a wide range of colours, including brown, white, and other hues. During the holidays, it's even available in festive patterns. It appeals to me because I can tuck some dried flowers inside to add even more natural decoration.

Some wax papers may not adhere to the tape, which you may discover. In this case, tie a string around it to keep it in place.

Herbs And Flowers Can Be Added To Handcrafted Soap.

You don't have to limit yourself to ribbons and paper when it comes to decorating handmade soap. You can use both dried and fresh foliage and flowers to add even more interest. There are a few options, and you'll need to be extra cautious if you're using new materials.

To begin, you can decorate Handmade Soap Packaging with flowers or herbs during the manufacturing process. In this case, the soap acts as the packaging, and it can be given as is or with a simple bow tied around it. I've got a few recipes on SirePrinting that show you how to do it. My recipe for making a natural leaf etching on handmade soap using fresh cedar leaves comes to mind.

Handmade Soap Is Packaged With Greenery.

Another option is to tie greenery or dried herbs to your bars with a bow. As seen above with the washcloth decorated soap, it could be a few stems of dried lavender, dried sage, or a sprig of holly. Take a cutting from one of your succulent plants and tie it in as a gift for a gardener friend. They can propagate it into a new plant, so it's a win-win situation.

Make sure to decorate your soap the day before you want to give it away if you're using fresh greenery. It will wilt otherwise, dampening the soap and any other packaging materials and resulting in a sloppy mess.

Herb Garden Soap is used to package herbal bath fizzes. Both recipes are available on SirePrinting.

Soap Is Sold Alongside Other Cosmetics.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of making Handmade Soap Boxes is creating matching items. If you like the photo above, I have recipes for peppermint lip balm to go with peppermint soap, lavender body balm to go with lavender soap, and herb garden soap and bath fizzes. Put them in a paper box, wrap a ribbon around them, and you've got yourself some inexpensive handmade gifts.

The sky is the limit when it comes to creating and packaging Handmade Soap Packaging. These are just a few ideas; I'm sure you can think of a few more.

Please take a look at some of my soap recipes if you enjoyed this article. They'd all make lovely handmade gifts, and some of them already have packaging and decorating ideas.
